Apollo Bay to Sorrento
We were up early so decided to hit the road. A wise thing as the road was empty apart from cyclists everywhere. We even saw a Koala merrily sloping down the edge of the carriage way.
This was the section with the most twists and turns. A couple of interesting sights along the way but nothing too exciting.
We were in earshot of Melbourne and had taken the conscious decision to avoid it. After all we will be there for four days in March for the Grand Prix. We stopped in Queenscliff for a bite to eat and the ferry ride across the bay to Sorrento.
The ferry was only an hour and the scenery was impressive. We were in Sorrento at midday. We ran around looking for somewhere to stay but to no avail. This was the rich mans playground and they were indeed all here playing! Porsche, Maseratti, Mercedes were being driven around by everyone.
In the end we settled on the YHA. At only $40 each!!! for the night (it was a dump and a rip off but we had no other option). At about 4pm we went up to the main pub in town to chill out with a few drinks. It was nice to be somewhere early in the day for a change. After a couple of drinks we had a fantastic dinner and then followed it by going up to the ‘night club’ above.
A very strange affair as we had to pay $15 to get in! and it was empty…. By about 10pm the place was crazy & full of rich kids. By 12pm we’d had enough and headed back to our room.
