Road Trip – Day 2 (1860Km)

Nyngan – Silverton

After getting up early we headed out of Nyngan at 8am. It was bright and sunny as we headed west out to Cobar. Cobar is a mining town where they typically dig for copper and gold.

We arrived early and got the chance to have a good cooked breakfast. We then spent an hour or so looking around the place and visitor centre. It is quite amazing to see how these places have changed over the last 150 years. We then headed out to Mt Grenfell National Park, stopping along the way in a farm that was welcoming visitors in. You don’t see many people around these areas so I guess it is a pleasant change.

We speant an hour looking at some Aboriginal paintings before getting back on the road. This 50Km side trip did not take up too much time as you still drive at 70mph on the gravel roads. Once you get the hang of it, it’s relatively easy.

When zipped up to Broken Hill, through Wilcannia. Wilcannia is apparently renowned for being a bit a dodgy place. It did look like a dump to be honest, almost ghetto. No one was around so it was quite eerie. We eventually got to Broken Hill, changing our watches back half an hour for the central time zone. Silverton is another 26Km out of Broken Hill on another dead end.

After a couple of drinks at the pub we went up to the Mundi Mundi look out see the sunset. After a couple more drinks we met a local artist John Dylon. We managed to get a guided tour of his gallery both public and private areas to the rear. Quite an interesting place.

I headed to bed whilst Andreas hit the town
