So this weekend was the Queens Birthday. It was the last long weekend we get over here until the end of the Year. To make the most of it we drove down to Coffs Harbour to see Andreas’ new pad and where he is working. James & Ness also were able to make it.
I had the Friday off work so after sorting my life out I headed on down south after lunch. Coffs is about 500Km south of Brisbane, marking the half way point to Sydney. This takes about five hours on some of the poorest roads you have travelled on. Yep – the roads over here are even worse than NZ.
Stopping of at Bryon Bay to visit the lighthouse was a nice break from the montotony of the trip. Not much to do here really apart from spotting the odd migrating whale in the distance. Bryon is the most easterly point in Australia. After several more hours and lots of trees (most of the trip is between forrests) I arrived. After a touch of food and a couple of drinks we called it a night.
The Saturday day was a quiet affair – This place is really sleepy. (To put it into context it has only three pubs!) After having lunch Ness and James arrived in time for the BBQ. Andreas performed another miracle with several lamb joints and copious amounts of alcohol. Finally heading into town we ended up getting kicked out of the pub as it was time to shut. It’s quite strange finishing drinking so early, afterall it was only 1pm.
Sunday was a bit of a sight see, around the area and where Andreas worked, followed by a game or two of nine pin bowling. This was a lot harder than it looked.
Monday was spent trying to fly my kite on the beach, followed by a drive up to Bellingen and Dorigdio, vising the skywalk and a train graveyard on the way. As it became dark we finally headed back to Brisbane arriving back around 10pm.
