It’s a Goal!

The weekend was another hectic affair. Andreas was back in town.

On Saturday we drove up to Mooloolaba – a sleepy town on the sunshine coast. With the weather being bad (a life saver for the drought) we were unable to go kite surfing. Not forgetting Andreas’ dodgy leg. Anyhow we met up with another Icelandic girl and her Swedish and German friends. Several hours later, a charcoal bbq (something I have not seen for more than three years!), lots of Cornonas & the token G&T’s we headed out on the town. Well okay it was one bar followed by a slightly bigger one. By the time we finished up it was 3am.

With sore heads we eventually headed back to Brisbane, which is about an hour and a half away. After a token power nap we headed out with James, Rob et al to go and watch the world cup qualifier – Australia v Iraq. It’s quite strange to see fifty thousand people all rambling up to the stadium, which is just a ten minute walk beyond where I work.

It was the first time I have been to watch a football match since probably when I was taken to watch Plymouth Argyle in the eighties! Compared to the Super 14′s (rugby played between various teams from Australia, NZ & South Africa) or AFL (Australian Football League) it was a bloody slow affair. Australia won with a lucky goal two minutes into the second half. Iraq deserved to win with plenty of shots across the Australian goal. They could even pass and play like a team – a far cry from the Australian lacklustre affair!
