Having flown back into Abu Dhabi at 6:40am on Sunday I was going to head straight to work.
It looked like it had been wet and I discovered how much when I got back to my apartment.
There was water downstairs in the entrance, on my landing, in my hall and in my bedroom. It’s a bloody good job I learnt from the last time I had a leak as now all my computer gear is sat off the floor. Still I had no idea how it had got to where it had so I quickly mopped up and headed to work.
The day was long and busy. By the time I left for home it was around 8pm. There was talk about more bad weather on it’s way on Monday. We all knew rain was coming – just not when.
BANG – The thunder rang out in time with several loud flashes. It was 2am. The flashes kept going along with an almost continuous barrage of lightning. The rain started pretty quickly and was some of the heaviest I have seen here.
Within five minutes water was coming through the patio doors, then started cascading down the wall through the ariel cables ducting passing down from the roof. And finally water started to appear in the bedroom – I have no idea where this was coming from. After an hour or two the rain stopped. I’d mopped up about 20+ litres of water and was knackered.
I ended up staying up for the rest of the night just in case… I left for work early and quickly came across the foot of water in the street. Heading down the road I turned the corner and the water continued. There was one hell of a lot of it.
I managed to get to work quickly only to be greeted by the carpark under water.
You would never never think that this could happen in a desert! Now where did I leave my Ark!?
